2021 Report on International Religious Freedom launched

The 2021 global and Zimbabwe Reports on International Religious Freedom are now available. Since the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998, we have delivered an annual Report on International Religious Freedom. This annual report provides governments and legislators, human rights advocates, religious communities, and citizens a tool to better understand the religious freedom situation in their own countries and other places around the world.

The Biden Administration is wholly committed to advancing universal respect for religious freedom for all people around the globe. We promote religious freedom as the deepest expression of our values and as a national security imperative.

History has shown that nations that uphold and protect the rights of their people, including religious freedom, are more just, peaceful, and prosperous. Conversely, those that don’t sow the bitter seeds of instability and violence. Where religious freedom is protected, other freedoms – like expression, association, and peaceful assembly – flourish. Defending the free exercise of religion or belief directly contributes to enhancing broader political freedoms, economic prosperity, and the rule of law.
