African-American History Month

February is Black History Month and here is an excerpt what President Obama said: “As we mark National African American History Month, we celebrate giants of the civil rights movement and countless other men and women whose names are etched in the hearts of their loved ones and the cornerstones of the country they helped to change. We pause to reflect on our progress and our history — not only to remember, but also to acknowledge our unfinished work. We reject the false notion that our challenges lie only in the past, and we recommit to advancing what has been left undone.”

We have scheduled a series of poetry sessions to pay tribute to the heroes, sung and unsung, of African-American history. See the list below for an event near you:

  • Thursday, February 5th 2015; 5.30 at the Book Café, Harare
  • Wednesday February 11th 2015; 3 pm at the Gweru Memorial Library
  • Thursday February 12 2015; 3 pm at the American Corner at the Bulawayo Public Library
  • Saturday February 21st 2015, 2 pm in Chitungwiza- Venue: TBA
  • Friday February 27th 2015; 3 pm at the Turner Memorial Library in Mutare
  • Saturday February 28th 2015- public performance in First Street in Harare
