Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.
The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

Regardless of the exchange program length, if you participated in a American-sponsored exchange program you are a life-long alumni. We invite all who have participated in any of our transformative U.S. exchange programs to register with the U.S. Embassy in Harare and at the International Exchange Alumni website.
Hubert H. Humphrey Program brings 200 outstanding mid-career professionals from countries in states of development or transition to the United States to engage in non-degree study and related professional experiences at select American universities.
International Visiting Leaders Program (IVLP)
International Visiting Leaders Program (IVLP) offers professionals a short-term visit to the United States, alongside current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields, to experience explore the plurality of American approaches to today’s tough challenges and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts.
Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI)
Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) provides emerging leaders internships on the cutting edge, business and leadership seminars, and a growing network for future collaboration.
The Fulbright program in Zimbabwe has been in existence in Zimbabwe since 1980 and approximately 230 Zimbabweans have received Fulbright grants to pursue higher degrees, carry out research and curricula projects or teach in the United States.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program in Zimbabwe awards scholarships to Zimbabwean university faculty for advanced degrees in the United States. Designed primarily to provide professional development and strengthen higher education, the Student Program is the largest Fulbright program in Africa. The premier international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States Department of State, the United States Congress annually appropriates the funds for the Fulbright program.
Fulbright Foreign Scholar Program
The Fulbright Foreign Scholar Program in Zimbabwe awards grants to conduct postdoctoral research, or a curriculum development program at U.S. academic or research institutions.
Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher Program expands perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue. The Program offers unparalleled opportunities in the United States apply to conduct research in their country of choice (Zimbabwe) in all academic disciplines to graduating university seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program offers awards for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects in Zimbabwe. College and university faculty, as well as artists and professionals from a wide range of fields can join over 400,000 worldwide Fulbright alumni who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding. Announcements are made in April/May of each year. U.S. faculty grants are for one semester or academic year.
Specialist U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
