Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.
The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

Regardless of the exchange program length, if you participated in a American-sponsored exchange program you are a life-long alumni. We invite all who have participated in any of our transformative U.S. exchange programs to register with the U.S. Embassy in Harare and at the International Exchange Alumni website.
Hubert H. Humphrey Program brings 200 outstanding mid-career professionals from countries in states of development or transition to the United States to engage in non-degree study and related professional experiences at select American universities.
International Visiting Leaders Program (IVLP)
International Visiting Leaders Program (IVLP) offers professionals a short-term visit to the United States, alongside current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields, to experience explore the plurality of American approaches to today’s tough challenges and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts.
Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI)
Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) provides emerging leaders internships on the cutting edge, business and leadership seminars, and a growing network for future collaboration.
The Fulbright program has been in existence in Zimbabwe since 1982 and approximately 80 Zimbabweans have received Fulbright grants to pursue higher degrees or carry out research in the U.S.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program
The U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Section announces the 2023 Fulbright Foreign Student Program, which awards scholarships to Zimbabwean university faculty for advanced degrees in the United States. Designed primarily to provide professional development and strengthen higher education, the Student Program is the largest Fulbright program in Africa. The premier international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States Department of State, the United States Congress annually appropriates the funds for the Fulbright program.
U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad.
Fulbright African Scholar Program
The U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Section announces the 2023 Fulbright African Scholar program to conduct postdoctoral research or a curriculum development program during the 2023/24 academic year at a U.S. academic or research institution. We strongly encourage applicants to incorporate activities that build University partnerships between Zimbabwean higher education and U.S. universities. The premier international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States Department of State, the United States Congress annually appropriates the funds for the Fulbright program.
Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program is a non-degree part professional part academic program. This one year, full-scholarship program is offered to mid-career professionals working at policy-level who have a record leadership, a commitment to public service, and the initiative to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent study at a leading American university. The Hubert Humphrey Program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey. Since 1978 over 5000 Fellows from all over 140 countries have participated in the program. Over 30 Zimbabweans have participated in this exchange program.
