U.S. Citizen Services

To reduce introduction and spread of new variants of SARS-CoV-2, CDC issued an Order effective January 26, 2021. It requires all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested for COVID-19 infection no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. For more information on this testing requirement, see the CDC’s Frequently Asked Questions.

Due to reduced staffing, the U.S. Embassy in Harare is currently providing reduced American Citizen Services, with limited appointments available.  Please contact ConsularHarare@state.gov to inquire about appointments.

Full validity passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad are being processed but please continue to expect longer processing times. If you have previously applied for a passport or citizenship service, you should expect significant delays and can check on the status of this service by emailing consularharare@state.gov.

If you have an urgent need to travel for which you require a U.S. passport, we may be able to assist with issuing a limited-validity emergency passport.  Due to the volume of inquiries we are currently receiving, we ask that you contact us at consularharare@state.gov at least ten days in advance of confirmed travel.
