On December 23rd, 2015, the United States Marines based at the Embassy’s Detachment in Harare conducted their annual Toys for Tots donation efforts with much success. The Marines delivered over 200 presents ranging from stuffed animals for small children to coloring books, legos, toy planes and more for older kids at the Gunhill Squatter camp in Harare.

“The feeling of helping out was refreshing, but also seeing the smiles on their faces made the day even more memorable,” said Sergeant Leach III Henry E. in charge of marine welfare and recreation.

The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is an age old tradition spanning just over two decades allowing members of the U.S. marines throughout the world to assist less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas as well as develop the world’s most valuable resources – children. New toys are collected in Zimbabwe and the United States during October, November and December each year, and distributed those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.- ZimPAS © January 13, 2016.
